Dear Ms Robinson
I was very impressed to hear about your whistleblowing campaign.
I am an ex NHS psychiatrist who lost my job in the Welsh NHS, after whistleblowing and being bullied over a period of around 6 years. I am now spokesperson for a group of NHS whistleblowers in NHS Wales ( Do No Harm Wales). We have been campaigning for an open and transparent speak-up culture in NHS Wales. We created a ten-point plan in order to address the problem locally ( I am happy to send this to you as it has many components in common with your own campaign).
I would be very keen to communicate with you on this subject, especially with regards to cover-ups and failings in devolved healthcare systems. Wales has made virtually no attempt to address this problem and is miles behind other parts of the United Kingdom. You may be aware that NHS Wales is almost non-functioning in many areas and we hear story after story of bullied staff.
So far our campaign group has been pretty much ignored by the Welsh Labour government ( although we were mentioned in passing in the pretty useless health and social care bill 2019).
The issue of transparency is huge and I imagine any change in the law would involve devolution so maybe it would be good to talk and share information.
As I say, well done in being one of the few people in the UK government willing to address this hugely important issue.

An indisputable tragedy of the Welsh Region’s NHS, and probably the NHS in all other Regions of the UK, is the indisputable damage being done to the NHS in general of the Post-Code Lottery that is being grossly and crassly exacerbated by the idiotic concept of Devolution and the folly of Devolving responsibility for the NHS on a Regional basis.
On a nationwide basis there is no doubt that the NHS is in trouble, problems built into the system founded on Lord Beveridge’s Report after the war, which excellent as it was met with political tampering from Nye Bevan and the alterations he made as a Marxist Socialist with Jenny Lee, a card carrying Communist, as his very influential Labour MP wife!
One of the greatest problems the NHS now has is the level of bullying of staff, be they Consultants, Doctors or Nurses – bullying that comes about as a result of the excessive interference of managers and politicians, seeking to point-score Empire-build and feather their own nests at the expense of the SERVICE itself. This leads to a ‘battle-weary’ attitude on the part of the beleaguered medical staff and a difficulty introducing improvements and transparency such that many of the medical staff just soldier on in silence – scared of being bullied and possibly losing their job or being ‘fitted-up’ as the fall guys for outrageous practices and errors that are all but endemic.
Few have the courage and integrity to break ranks and speak out – they either move on, acquiesce in fear or quit. Very few have the courage and integrity to become whistle-blowers as they fear the consequences of ANY effort to make improvements – one clear disadvantage is that time and again yet more money is squandered on the NHS to cover the cracks and hide the obscene levels of waste.
In its simplest of terms look at senior Doctors who end up sharing PAs, secretaries and in many instances even desks in tiny offices, stuffed with reference material and patient notes – it is all too easy to identify the management offices with their well lit open spaces, plants and open views.
Unfortunately, even the leavers dare not speak out, usually for one of two reasons, either they have been ground down and know they incriminate themselves if they speak out, as for too long, they did nothing or they fear for the effect on their pensions or their new role in life!
We clearly, desperately need more organisations like ‘Do No Harm Wales’ right across the NHS addressing Whistleblowing in the devolved Regions of the NHS and root and branches reform of the NHS at large or in a very few years it will collapse totally dragging down respect for ALL Parties in Government that have merely chucked our money down the drain to hide the terminal cracks during their term in Governance.
The NHS does NOT need more money, it needs to cut waste and improve its competence and care, both of patients and staff radically or within 10 years we will have no NHS and will be taking yet another leap backwards to the stone age! Akin to the utter folly of Year Zero fantasies!
My best wishes to Mary Robinson MP, she is at least trying to solve the problems, not just hide the cracks to enhance her chances of re-election.

When in black text the wording ‘Welsh Language’ means the ‘Language of the peoples of Wales’ and is therefore the majority language ie ‘English’
The ancient language of parts of Wales, varied as it is, as spoken by a tiny minority in Wales is called ‘Welsh’ or ‘the ancient Welsh language’
