EU heralds 2014 as yet another assault on democracy

The European Union is no longer un-democratic, or anti-democratic. It has become a neo-authoritarian project, and the latest news is just another example of how and why

It is a tragic irony that the pro-democracy protestors in Ukraine are waving EU flags as a symbol of what they want. Even we acknlowedge that the EU is better than the appalling Viktor Yanukovich, the country’s president, let alone Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

So, Brussels is better than Moscow and Kiev. Great job!

But a democracy the EU is not, as we reported in our exclusive story late last night on the latest effort to bludgeon a European country into joining the euro when it plainly doesn’t want it, as the opinion polls conclusively show.

The country in question is the former Soviet republic of Latvia. It’s not a big country — population just over two million — but Latvians count as much as the rest of us, and they deserve their democratic rights. (There’s also the question of who is next? What do these people have planned for 2014?)

Well, that’s what we think. The vastly overpaid, tin-pot bureaucrats in Brussels think differently, as they’ve shown on many occasions.

The top and bottom of it is that Latvia enters the eurozone on January 1, 2014 while polls show 60 percent of Latvians are dead set against the idea. Unlike Brussels, they’ve seen how the euro can devastate economies or exacerbate their problems, as we have seen in Ireland and across southern Europe.

No wonder they’re burning European flags in the capital city of Riga against the euro (see picture in the link).

But Brussels doesn’t care. After all, they’ve trashed European democratic principles many times. Remember the repeat referendums in Ireland on EU constitutional arrangements? The Irish said “no” to EU treaties in 2001 and 2008, but were forced to vote again on both occasions until they said “yes”.

Remember the rejection of the so called European Constitution in the last decade by France and the Netherlands? That time the results were ignored and the document in question was re-named the Lisbon Treaty so Brussels could get around the problem that way. Blatant fraud; another line on the charge sheet.

Remember the ludicrous Herman Van Rompuy, who holds the pointless job of President of the European Council and is paid more than Barack Obama for the privilege? Remember how he had the temerity to tell Italy not to hold a general election in November 2011?

There’s only so long when isolated instances start to become a pattern. And the pattern we see is of a neo-authoritarian superstate in the making. Poor old Latvia.

IN MEMORIAM: The Sioux at Wounded Knee 1890

IN MEMORIAM: The Sioux at Wounded Knee 1890

IN MEMORIAM:
The Sioux at Wounded Knee 29-Dec-1890

29-Dec-2013 marks the 123rd. anniversary of the massacre of The Lakota Sioux under Chief Big Foot of The Miniconjou Sioux at Wounded Knee, less than 2 weeks after the murder of Sitting Bull by US Cavalry at Standing Rock Reservation.

Similarly 29-Nov-2013 was the 149th. anniversary of the massacre of 1864, by the Militia of Colonel John Chivington, of a defenceless Cheyenne and an Arapaho villages at Sand Creek (Soldier Blue portrays this most aptly and the song by the native American Indian Buffy Saint Marie says it all! CLICK HERE her rendering of ‘Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee‘ is spectacular!).

CLICK HERE was this a rehearsal for Mai Lai or just an indication of the value Politicians and the military place upon Treaties? Consider the corrupt basis of The EU and the clear lack of meaningful democracy – A massacre of liberty & democracy, freedom & justice by stealth!

The Irish may care to learn from the wisdom of the Indigenous peoples of America – Never trust a treaty signed against one’s better instincts, against one’s will and sold to such an extent that they were prepared to lie.

Sadly this so very much applies to virtually ALL aspects of the relationship these United Kingdoms have with The EU – wherein our own politicians and Snivil Cervants are OUR ENEMY within, as they have duped and betrayed us with monotonous regularity regarding The EU and have stolen our money to fund their own personal ambitions; Currently OUR politicians are stealing £53 Million + a day to fund the failed, corrupt, depraved and undemocratic EU scam.

Clearly a scam as all it provides is a blocking process for democracy and a rubber stamping process for the edicts of such bodies as WTI, WHO, CODEX, Davos, UN and the like who form the overarching global governance to whose tune the EU dances as it obfuscates democracyy, human rights, liberty, justice and trade – at an obscene and uneccessary cost.

The Cheyenne, The Arapaho, Sitting Bull, The Miniconjou, The Lakota and Big Foot had binding Treaty Agreements with a nascent super State seeking to increase its control, that too was with catastrophic consequences.

Some amongst The Irish will recall that John Major signed an agreement with The EU termed by The Sun newspaper on its banner front page as Game, Set & Match to Major yet it seems it was not valid since The EU have just arbitrarily overturned the Treaty – as did The Colorado Militia and the US 7th. Cavalry before them in creating their supra national state.

As does the EU, by deceit, stealth and betrayal salami slicing away our liberty and freedoms without any meaningful democratic input!.

It would seem that The EU is no respecter of agreements either and Ireland is to vote again to make it possible to claim they voted for their own demise as a Nation State! No massacre here just the death of democracy and self determination granted at great cost in 1922.

& to think that Declan Ganley AND the British Tory Party, The Farage Party and his odious allies in The EU The Pan EU Political Party Group in The EFD with their racism, anti Judaism, anti homosexuality, sham so called christianity and violent xenophobic hatreds based on country, class and creed – they are so stupid as to believe that The EU can be changed from within!

Sand Creek Colorado and Wounded Knee will hold no torch to the massacres and deaths that will result from the enforcement of The EU on a largely resistant peoples! As famine stalks the plains of EUrope due to the greed and stupidity of Politicians and as ‘The Wars of Disassociation’ become more determined!

“In politics, stupidity is not a handicap.”
Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821)

Details of The Wounded Knee Massacre:

The Massacre at Wounded Knee drew its cause from the US Government policy of forcing the indigenous peoples to live on reservations and forgo their itinerant life style following the herds across their territories. Forcing the people to live in a manner alien to their traditions, life style and needs.

The break down of indigenous culture led to a strong movement to restore their old ways led by the ‘Ghost Dancers’, seeking to restore the old ways and values, amongst the Sioux at Pine Ridge, which increasingly worried the Government.

On the 15-Dec-1890 the reservation police entered the Pine Ridge area, S.E. of Rapid City South Dakota, to try to arrest the Sioux Chief Sitting Bull – an incident that led to his death, greatly increasing the tension in the area.

The killing of Sitting Bull led to drafting in the US Army 7th. Cavalry who on the 29-Dec-1890 surrounded a group of the Ghost Dancers led by Big Foot, a Lakota Sioux Chief of the Miniconjou tribe of Sioux Plains Indians.

The cavalry surrounded them at their encampment/village at Wounded Knee Creek and demanded they surrender their weapons. As this was taking place a fight started between one of the Sioux and a US soldier and a shot was fired.

The 7th. Cavalry then went on to an uncontrolled massacre of between 150 and 300 of the Sioux villagers, about half of the casualties were women and children. The cavalry recorded a mere 25 casualties!

The Massacre was originally passed off as a battle but was not only a tragedy but an undeniable and avoidable massacre. Surrounded by heavily armed cavalry it is hardly plausible that Big Foot with old men, women and children being predominant amongst his villagers would have deliberately started any kind of battle!

It has been speculated by some historians that the massacre deliberately carried out by the 7th. Cavalry as revenge for the ignominy of their defeat at Little Big Horn in 1876.

Whatever the cause or trigger of the massacre it was the last major incident in the US Government’s eradication of the Plains Indians and a final step in the control and destruction of the indiginous peoples of America.

Let us remember not just those who died at Wounded Knee but the destruction of the entire culture of the indigenous peoples of North America.

Time to privatise the BBC

Time to privatise the BBC

This has been one of Mrs Edmond’s themes for many years. Her views were in part generated by the persistent misreporting and bias in children’s medical care stories. Tim Congdon has also recently been banging this drum at a lecture he gave on 12th Nov. I reproduce his introduction below:

“In the early 1950s the British Broadcasting Corporation was – by a wide margin – the largest and most influential broadcasting organization in the world .
But the world has moved on – and so must our thinking about the structure of broadcasting in our country.”

His central argument is:

• License free is obsolete and impractical in modern world of on-the-move electronic communications, and has to be phased-out and/or abolished.
• In a world without the license fee, the BBC should finance itself like the existing ‘global media businesses’ from market sources. Fair competition requires that it be privatized.
• The BBC should therefore be privatized, and planning for that outcome should already be in hand.

That is the strong economic/financial case for privatisation but there are other aspects to the argument. The BBC has a dominant position in political reporting. ITV, C4 and Sky ‘s political output is a small fraction of the Beeb’s. Adding up Andrew Neil’s programmes alone comes to 7 hours a week. This output is largely well researched and balanced. Question Time the most widey watched ‘political’ show is not. Worse it has a live audience which in high profile shows has been very unbalanced and biased as has been the chairmanship of Dimbelbey.

Dimblebee’s elitist patronising attitude is mirrored by his bosses, Patten and Hall has rightly annoyed
the Commons Culture and Media select committee who have described Patten, known as Fat Pang in Hong Kong, decsribed by one MP as ‘contemptuous’ and ‘lofty’.

This was documented thus in today’s Guido Fawkes blog:

Culture, Media & Sport Committee MP: Patten Must Quit
Second Member Slams ‘Contemptuous’ and ‘Lofty’ Lord

After waiting ten months to admit that it would be ‘preferable’ for a different version of the Pollard Review into the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal to have been published, the Chairman of the BBC Trust is now facing calls to resign. Philip Davies, an MP on the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee has called on Patten to walk:

“The last shred of credibility that Lord Patten had as Chairman of the BBC Trust has now gone and I think he should go.”

Another member of the committee, Conor Burns, adds:

“The Pollard report and the appointment of Tony Hall as Director General of the BBC was meant to allow the BBC to draw a line under a discreditable period in the BBC’s recent history. Yet myself and others on the Culture Select committee have repeatedly pressed Lord Patten and Tony Hall on the matter of Helen Boaden’s submissions to Polland and why they were excluded from the report. My questions were treated at best with lofty disdain and at worst as if I were just an irritant. The stone walling has now resulted in a completely avoidable questioning of trust in the BBC Trust and their handling of this matter. It may be excusable if there were not repeated warnings from MPs that the BBC could not move on until all information was fully in the public domain. The Trust and the Director General now have very serious questions to answer – not least why did they not answer questions to a Parliamentary committee when they clearly had the information to do so. It is not my role to call for resignations but it is to demand answers to questions that were posed and contemptuously ignored. I hope the Culture Committee will afford Lord Patten an opportunity to answer them very quickly before this episode yet again engulfs the BBC in yet another avoidable crisis of trust.”

The BBC say they are “not getting into numbers” over the amount of media requests that Patten has turned down in the last 24 hours, but it seems he will not be able to run away from scrutiny for long…
UPDATE: Another CMS committee MP, Angie Bray, who was Patten’s PA when he was Tory chairman, calls for him to explain himself to parliament:

“I challenged Chris Patten on this issue at the select committee hearing on 25 April and he was very very adamant then that there was nothing more to be said about it. I felt dissatisfied with the response I got then and it now seems at last that the BBC has woken up to it. It’s time that Chris Patten gave some answers. I think it would be right for Chris Patten to come and answer questions in front of our committee. I was always dissatisfied with the answers I got from Chris Patten back in April. I thought he gave very evasive answers in April. We need to get to the bottom of this and the best way of doing that is for Chris Patten to come and speak to our committee.”

I applaud the MPs. Its high time someone hit  the Beeb in their  huge salaries.

My wife and I never watch the BBC news. C4 and Sky are vastly better best of all cost nothing!

I felt it apposite to comment:

Hi,

I almost never watch BBC as I find the concept of enforced funding from taxation of such corrupt journalism to be repugnant.

The BBC clearly works to an agenda as a propaganda medium for special interest groupswhich I do not agree with.

That it is funded by intimidation and the enforced contributions of the poor to subsidise incompetence, propaganda and obscene salaries & bonuses rolling up the costs of TV ever higher is ethically beneath contempt.

Jimmy Savile & his cronies colluded to abused children but the BBC abuses entire audiences & the population at large.

The EU is without Honour, Integrity, Morality or Democracy

The EU is without Honour, Integrity, Morality or Democracy

.

The single most objectionable thing about the EU (in a crowded field)

Arbitrary government – literally

Shall I tell you the worst thing about the EU? It’s not the waste or the corruption or the Michelin-starred lifestyles of its leaders. It’s not the contempt for voters or the readiness to swat referendum results aside. It’s not the way that multi-nationals and NGOs and all manner of corporate interests are privileged over consumers. It’s not the pettifogging rules that plague small employers. It’s not the Common Agricultural Policy or the Common Fisheries Policy. It’s not the anti-Britishness or the anti-Americanism. It’s not even the way in which the euro is inflicting preventable poverty on tens of millions of southern Europeans.

No, it’s something more objectionable than any of these things – and something which, bizarrely, doesn’t exercise us nearly as much as it should. Put simply, it’s this: the EU makes up the rules as it goes along.

Just think, for a moment, about what that means. It means that any deal you’ve signed can be arbitrarily altered later. It means that any plans you’ve made, on the basis of what you took to be binding agreements, can be retrospectively destroyed. It means, in short, that there is no effective rule of law.

Consider one current example: a breach of the law so flagrant, so brazen, that it ought to stir a free people to revolt – and yet which has received only the paltriest attention.

When the European Constitution Lisbon Treaty was negotiated, Britain secured an opt-out from elements of it, notably the EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights. This opt-out was no token. It was repeatedly described by ministers as a “red line”: an issue on which, in other words, they must get their way if they were to sign up to the treaty at all. The opt-out was brandished as a major victory for the Labour government. Indeed, the PM cited it in Parliament as a reason not to concede the public vote he had earlier promised.

Here is Tony Blair at the Despatch Box on 25 June, 2007:

It is absolutely clear that we have an opt-out from both the charter and judicial and home affairs. Those were the reasons why people like the right hon. Gentleman were saying that they wanted a referendum.

Pretty unequivocal, no? The EU’s human rights code would not be justiciable in the UK. Euro-judges wouldn’t be able to impose it on us.

It didn’t take long for Brussels to go back on the deal. In a series of rulings, the European Court of Justice drew explicitly on the Charter to force its decisions on Britain. Some of these decisions had vast consequences. For example, the ECJ cited the Charter when it banned cheaper car insurance for women (and cheaper annuities for men) on grounds of gender discrimination.

Many British judges go along with the EU’s judicial activism, partly out of Euro-enthusiasm and partly because they like it when politicians are dictated to by the Bench. But the blatancy of this latest power-grab is too much for some. When a lawyer acting for a failed asylum seeker referred to the Charter in a bid to reverse a deportation order earlier this month, the presiding judge, Mr Justice Mostyn, was understandably flabbergasted:

I was surprised, to say the least, as I was sure the British government had secured  an opt-out at the negotiations of the Lisbon Treaty. To my mind, it is absolutely clear that the contracting parties agreed that the Charter did not create one single further justiciable right in our domestic court. The constitutional significance of this can hardly be overstated.

We’re dealing with a fundamental difference in attitudes to the rule of law. The EU has always been ready to subordinate the dots and commas of the rules to political imperatives.

To cite only the most recent example, the euro-zone bailouts were patently illegal. Article 125 of the EU Treaty is unequivocal: “The Union shall not be liable for, or assume the commitments of, central governments, regional, local or other public authorities, other bodies governed by public law, or public undertakings of any Member State.” This clause was no mere technicality. It was on the basis of its promise that the Germans agreed to abandon the Deutschmark in the first place. As Angela Merkel put it: “We have a Treaty under which there is no possibility of paying to bail out states.”

Yet, as soon as it became clear that the euro wouldn’t survive without cash transfusions, the treaties were set aside. Christine Lagarde, then the French finance minister and now the director of the International Monetary Fund, boasted about what had happened: “We violated all the rules because we wanted to close ranks and really rescue the euro zone. The Treaty of Lisbon was very straightforward. No bailouts.”

How can we deal with a body that is not just open about, but proud of, its readiness to bend the rules? How could a deal negotiated by David Cameron, or any other British leader, be expected to stand as long as we were subject to the arbitrary whim of the ECJ? No new relationship with the EU will be worth the paper it’s written on unless it tackles the jurisdictional question. Whether by renegotiation or by Brexit, we need to get to a Swiss-type arrangement, where common rules apply narrowly to market issues, and where regulations bind the signatories as states rather than having direct effect on individuals. (The doctrine of direct effect was invented by the ECJ in a series of power-grabs in the 1960s, rather neatly illustrating the problem.)

Anglosphere exceptionalism is summed up in the words John Adams used when designing the Massachusetts state constitution: “a government of laws not of men”. Actually, the phrase wasn’t Adams’s: he was quoting a seventeenth-century English radical called James Harrington – a reminder of the deep roots of our shared Anglosphere liberties. But the point holds: the Anglosphere miracle lies in the elevation of the law above the state rather than the other way around. How sad that, debilitated by 40 years of EU membership, we appear to have dropped that principle.
