#G0615* – CLIMATE CHANGE Zealots by Dr. Richard NORTH

How climate change zealots are wrecking every last industry this country possesses

Last updated at 12:35 PM on 9th October 2011

Rather overshadowed by events at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester last week was a line in George Osborne’s speech which could mark the start of a long overdue political transformation in Britain.
The Chancellor acknowledged that a decade of environmental laws had been piling unnecessary costs on households and companies, adding that Britain was not going to save the planet by putting ourselves out of business.
He was referring in particular to the Climate Change Act, famously passed by the House of Commons in October 2008 by 463 votes to three, even as the snow was falling outside. By the Government’s own estimate, it would cost £404 billion to implement – £760 per household every year for four decades.
Converted: Chancellor George Osborne has pulled back from the 'green abyss'

Converted: Chancellor George Osborne has pulled back from the ‘green abyss’

The Act included a voluntary commitment to reduce Britain’s carbon dioxide emissions to 80 per cent of their 1990 level by 2050 – a target generally acknowledged to be achievable only by shutting down most of the economy – in an effort to demonstrate ‘global leadership’.
The lunacy of this commitment can be demonstrated by the fact that neither China nor the US – who together produce 40 per cent of global emissions compared with our two per cent – are committed to such draconian reductions.
Instead Mr Osborne suggested last week that we follow the EU, whose members agreed in March 2007 – as one of Tony Blair’s final acts of hubris – to a 20 per cent emissions reduction by 2020. The European Commission is still discussing a ‘road map’ for its 2050 target, putting the UK at a huge competitive disadvantage.

But while Europe is taking a relaxed view of climate change, Britain seems to have excelled in devising more and more bizarre ways of bankrupting the nation.
In December 2008 the Government’s Committee on Climate Change, chaired by Lord Turner of Ecchinswell, recommended that we should switch from eating beef and lamb to ‘less carbon-intensive types of meat’.
Within 11 years, the committee said, it wanted to see 40 per cent of all the cars on Britain’s roads powered by electricity. That very week it was reported that in the first ten months of 2008 just 156 were bought, fewer than half the 374 in the same period of 2007. That made a grand total of 1,100 on the road in Britain.
It also insisted no more coal-fired power stations should be built unless they could be fitted with ‘carbon capture’, funded by a levy on energy bills which would raise £3 billion from hard-pressed consumers.
Lobby: Lord Turner of Ecchinswell was part of a group of MPs who recommended we switch from eating beef to lamb

The overall effect of the unproven and probably unworkable technology to effectively bury carbon dioxide underground would be to double the price of electricity and make us even more dependent on Russian and other imported energy, which already supplies 70 per cent of our needs.
Nevertheless, a mad and ruinously expensive scheme was launched on the European stage. Industries should pay for using fossil fuels, through a ‘tax’ paid on each ton of carbon dioxide produced. Each company would have to buy certificates, known as ‘European allowances’ or ‘carbon credits’ – each representing a ton of carbon dioxide – with surpluses traded as a commodity.
Each year, the total would be reduced and commercial firms, hospitals and even Government offices would have to compete on the open market for enough certificates to enable them to operate.
The theory was that competition for a dwindling supply would force energy users to be more efficient. Instead, commercial users passed on the costs to their customers, with electricity prices rising for the average consumer by as much as £300.
Tens of thousands have been pushed into fuel poverty. Firms that could not pass on their costs moved abroad. Huge tranches of the aluminium industry have disappeared, one major firm having moved to the Emirates in October 2009 – taking 300 workers from Anglesey who had to follow to keep their jobs.
Pro green: Chris Huhne said he wanted to go 'further and faster' when he was Energy Secretary

Pro green: Chris Huhne said he wanted to go ‘further and faster’ when he was Energy Secretary

The madness didn’t stop there. In February 2010, Gordon Brown’s cash-strapped Government spent £60  million on ‘carbon credits’ for Whitehall and other Government offices in the UK, as well as British Nato bases in Europe.
Thus while troops were going short of kit in Afghanistan, the defence budget was being raided to buy carbon certificates.
When he became Prime Minister, David Cameron carried on the theme, promptly declaring that he wanted the Coalition to be ‘the greenest Government ever’.
His new Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne added that he wanted to go ‘further and faster than ever before’. Then it was announced that Britain, uniquely, should set a minimum price for carbon credits, instead of allowing the market to decide.
Known as the ‘carbon floor price’ the idea was that firms such as electricity generators would pay £16 per ton of carbon dioxide produced – compared to a market rate of £9 – with the price rising to £70 by 2030.

Announced by Mr Osborne in June’s budget, the Institute for Public Policy Research immediately warned that the policy would cost British industry at least £1 billion and drive manufacturers offshore, while pushing down the price of European permits, giving our EU competitors a generous gift.
And last week, even as Mr Osborne was standing up to deliver his speech in Manchester, Davin Bates, a management accountant at one of Stoke-on-Trent’s remaining successful potteries, was preparing to tell the world how spiralling energy costs – artificially inflated by ‘green’ levies and taxes – were driving energy-intensive companies like his out of the UK.
Particularly affected is the chemical industry, which contributes £30 million a day to the British economy. Major chemical multinationals are now looking to move production to places such as South Africa, India and China. There, under a global carbon credit scheme, we actually subsidise them by giving them credits – which they then sell back to our industries, making huge profits.
I haven’t even mentioned the madness of the wind machines. Subsidies, paid for by consumers, make wind power three times more costly than the normal tariff electricity. But as the pull of the subsidies draws investment away from new conventional plants, the spectre of power cuts looms large.
Caught in this vice of increasing ‘green’ costs and subsidised competition, the manufacturing industries which Osborne hopes will lead the UK recovery simply cannot survive.
Small wonder, therefore, that he bowed to the inevitable and pulled back from the green abyss.
Many believe that Osborne’s conversion is too little too late, but it is some small comfort at least, that we no longer have a Chancellor – or even a Prime Minister – keen to parade his ‘green’ credentials. Perhaps they are beginning to understand that, when the lights go out, all colours look the same: black.
If Britain is to pull itself out of economic crisis, Mr Osborne is going to have to go much further. At the very least, he has to lift this senseless raft of green taxes from industry and the electricity generators.

British Politicians with pens and treachery, in pursuit of their own agenda and greed, have done more damage to the liberty, freedoms, rights and democracy of the British peoples than any army in over 1,000 years.

The disastrous effects of British politicians selling Britain into the thrall of foreign rule by the EU for their own personal rewards has damaged the well-being of Britain more than the armies of Hitler and the Franco – German – Italian axis of 1939 – 1945.

An excellent documentary & you have 27 days to watch it in so do NOT miss the chance.

Having watched the documentary with little surprise but considerable horror it seemed apposite to use some of the facts therein to start to build on information from other sources – not least of which was the work of Simon Muir – The figures I have used have all been sourced or checked against The Office of National Statistics, The Tax Payers Alliance and for basic info Wikipedia!

UPDATE AS AT MID DAY Monday 15-Nov-2010:

This morning, official UK national debt will exceed:

EIGHT HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-THREE BILLION,
SIX HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS

£873,600,000,000

see <
http://www.taxpayersalliance.com/debtclock/about.html>

Note: including off balance sheet debt, the real figure is approximately
£8tn (million-million), equivalent to about £122,000 per UK Subject.

Dear Editor,

I read with sadness, after 13 unlucky years of Labour, the further irresponsible claims by MPs Primarolo and McCarthy and others regarding public sector spending cuts and benefits changes in the media (Bristol Evening Post – Friday 13-Nov-2010 [I note again 13!]
http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/news/Benefit-changes-affect-88-000-people-Bristol/article-2882849-detail/article.html ).

I would remind your readers that Ms. Dawn Primarolo used to be Paymaster General – her irresponsible profligacy with other peoples’ money led largely to her nick name of ‘Red Dawn’. Not only has her publicly-funded career made her rich beyond the dreams of most of her constituents, indeed most of the electorate, one would have hoped she might, by now, know a little about the state of the public finances!
It seems not in keeping with her economically illiterate associates.
Labour’s legacy is nothing short of fiscal ruin.
Here are the real figures we ALL have to address after the 13 unlucky years of Labour profligacy redolent of Lady Thatcher’s claim: “The problem with Socialism is that it very soon runs out of other peoples’ money”.
By midnight on Saturday, 13th November 2010, the OFFICIAL national debt will be more than:

EIGHT HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-TWO BILLION,
SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY-THREE MILLION POUNDS
£872,753,000,000

The rate at which it is GROWING is roughly the same as:

* the total cost of BOTH Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts,
every forty days,

* the Bank of England‘s gold reserves, in 49 days,

* the budget of the Welsh Assembly, in 35 days,

* the entire Defence budget, in just over 60 days.

or Bristol Council’s annual budget every twenty hours.

The UK has run a budget deficit (i.e. increased our debt level)

every year for the last 13 unlucky years.

This debt currently is well over than THREE TIMES more than it was at the start of those 13 unlucky years.
Even duplicitously trying to buy popularity for 13 unlucky years, by increasing the Kleptocratic QUANGOcracy to create a ‘Salary Vote’, the public resoundingly rejected Labour
I am sure you will have found the numbers above to be enormous however even so they do not include:
* unfunded public sector pensions (including Wales’s & its EU Assembly),

* unfunded state pensions for the whole population,

* Private Finance Initiative (PFI) schemes, which in the 13 unlucky years transferred almost every aspect of State ownership into Private hands that it could,

* Network Rail,

* nuclear decommissioning,

and other ongoing & future commitments.

When these are added-in, the true figure is an unimaginable:

EIGHT TRILLION POUNDS
(£7,900,000,000,000)

This is more than five and a half times our annual National turnover (GDP: Gross Domestic Product).

Per person (man woman & child in Britain), this means roughly:

ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-ONE THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS EACH
(£121,500)

Cardiff with a population of 324,800 share of this debt is a ‘mere’ £39,463,200,000

Wales with a population of 3,009,000 share of this debt is a ‘mere’ £365,593,500,000

City of Bristol with a population of 440,000 share of this debt is a ‘mere’ £53,460,000,000.

Manchester with a population of 440,500 share of this debt is a ‘mere’ £53,520,750,000

Birmingham with a population of 1,016,800 share of this debt is a ‘mere’ £123,541,200,000

Glasgow with a population of 588,740 share of this debt is a ‘mere’ £71,531,910,000

Scotland with a population of 5,168,500 share of this debt is a ‘mere’ £627,972,750,000

Labour MUST take the bulk of the blame for this during the 13 unlucky years (the numbers don’t lie, even if the politicians seem habitually to do so), but that’s pretty much irrelevant really.

Unless this debt is dealt with, our children will almost indubitably ‘enjoy’:

* no pensions at all, of any sort,

* no education funding for their children,

* hyperinflation and monetary collapse,

* no state benefits at all, of any kind,

* no retirement, except for the rich.

I believe this to be an optimistic summary when one considers that not only are these United Kingdoms grossly and obscenely in debt but they are unable to fund the education of their youth, nor feed themselves without import and are unable to fund their own Navy nor provide air cover and further they are committed to paying £48,000,000 per day on a rising and uncontrollable basis to their foreign masters.

In terms of optimism if there is to be any hope and any meaningfull future not just for these United Kingdoms but for our future generations change MUST be radical and hardship will prevail for a generation.

Even so like us, it is probable that our children will die in huge debt. This is through no fault of theirs. It’s a debt that, unless policies change rapidly and radically, might NEVER be paid off.

A debt which will bring misery and hunger into every home in the land as we watch our children suffer with no hope and no future.

It remains an urban myth that countries do not go bankrupt: ask any German about the Weimar Republic.

It would seem the only lesson we ever learn from history is the clear realisation that we learn nothing from history but some may remember that The Weimar republic, crippling inflation led poverty, the anarchic rise of Nazi violence and the inevitability of world war was a product of a system of Quantitative Easing to devalue the Mark to fund the immeasurable debt of Germany!

I believe these numbers are actually so frightening that our political leaders, even if they are not themselves in denial, dare not tell us the truth about the scale of the problem, that they themselves have created and hence the lies and bluster of self serving fools like Dawn Primarolo & Kerry McCarthy.

Seen in their true context of the very real debt, the present pusillanimous ‘austerity measures’ look not just banal but ridiculous. The most urgent and important issue right now is why the inane coalition is not doing more, and faster.

We may not like the truth but we, our peoples and our Country’s only hope is unconditional acceptance of swinging and painful cuts together with an immediate commencement of negotiations for withdrawal from the EU – a luxury for bloated politicians that not only can we no longer support but which it is morally reprehensible that we pretend to.

For greater clarity may I commend Channel Four’s excellent documentary:

Notes to editorial staff:
————————

1. “Deficit spending” means spending money we neither have nor earn.
The rest must be covered by MORE unsustainable borrowing.
The ‘budget deficit’ commonly talked about is ONLY this amount.
It is nowhere close to the actual total of government debt irresponsibly incurred in our name.

2. We pay compound interest on all ‘on-balance sheet’ debt, however some of the ‘off-balance-sheet’ debt represents
future liabilities, on which we do not pay interest until that spending becomes actual (yet!).

3. Figures above derive from the Office of National Statistics the Taxpayers Alliance, and other official statements on expenditure (City Budgets, etc.).

4. None of the above includes PRIVATE debt: overdrafts, credit cards, mortgages, loans, etc. That is on top of the £121,500 which is YOUR share of the nation’s current debt.

5. For a straightforward explanation of the scale of this, see:
<http://preview.tinyurl.com/2u7asam> (Channel Four’s recent programme on UK public debt). The programme’s numbers do NOT include ‘off-balance-sheet’ debt, hence, although staggering, are about 1/8 of the full figure.

6. It is hard to understand in the light of the facts what exactly students are clamouring about as their education costs as a debt are paltry relative to what they already owe! They will be well advised to seek qualification in something more relevant than Media Studies or European
Studies, psychology or IT (Games Design!).

7. In view of the size of the debt, the cuts on Police budgets and the certainty of a crime wave poverty driven is it any wonder that our Police are merely tax collectors and box tickers failing on all fronts to acquit their duties to the public just as are OUR other public servants
like Politicians.

#G337* – The EU has become a lumbering, unaccountable mess,

Hi,

it is increasingly clear the EU scam has failed – any organisation where the servants steal €2.4 BILLION from their masters just to tell their masters how damned clever the servants are is clearly a broken structure, a failure of ignoble proportions and I for one am sorry that Norris McWhirter did not live long enough to enter the EU in his Guinness Book of Records as the largest scam in history and possibly the biggest failure before inevitably he would have been forced to supercede it with the names Paschauri & Gore for the largest scam and most spectacular con ever pulled by man – and tho think they were so corrupt they accepted a Nobel Prize – was that for the biggest theft in history or the largest con?

Muddled: The inflated engine of our EU government rolls on, more power-crazed than ever

Muddled: The inflated engine of our EU government rolls on, more power-crazed than ever
The latest findings of Eurobarometer, the EU’s own polling organisation, show that less than half its citizens now believe it is a “good thing”. In many countries, its popularity is at record lows, and only 19 per cent see the EU as “democratic” (in Britain, Finland and Latvia this is as low as 10 per cent).
What makes this particularly ironic is that in 2001 the EU’s leaders issued their Laeken Declaration, admitting that the EU faced a crisis through its “democratic deficit”. Their remedy was the process designed to give Europe a “constitution”. After eight years of negotiation, obfuscation, lies and referendum-reverses, they got the constitution they wanted (although they had to disguise it as the Lisbon Treaty). The upshot of this tortuous attempt to “bring Europe closer to its peoples” is that those peoples see the EU as less democratic than ever.
Meanwhile, armed with its new powers, the inflated engine of our EU government rolls on, more power-crazed than ever. It is spending £800 million on setting up its new worldwide diplomatic service, with 100 of its officials earning more than our own shrunken and virtually irrelevant Foreign Secretary William Hague. Also now on the table are the EU’s options for imposing its own taxes, the front-runner being a tax on financial transactions to which Britain, as a world financial centre, would contribute 70 per cent, more than 300 billion euros a year. Britain and the City will also be hit hardest by the EU’s seizure of control over the regulation of financial services.
Our Chancellor, George Osborne, has just conceded the EU’s right to “supervise” the contents of national budgets, taking away much of a power Parliament has exercised for centuries. Britain also seems likely to lose what remains of the EU budget rebate won by Mrs Thatcher, putting up our yearly contributions to the EU by another £3 billion – even though, for every £1 we get back from Brussels for our farmers, we already hand over £2 to farmers in other countries.
Theresa May, our Home Secretary, weakly claims that she wants reform of the European Arrest Warrant, when half of all those affected by it are being extradited from Britain. The EU’s response, in effect, is that we agreed to this travesty of justice and we must learn to live with it.
But no current issue better illustrates the bizarre nature of the system to which we have surrendered the power to run our country than the chaos inflicted on our hospitals by the enforced application of the EU’s working time directive. Led by John Black, head of the Royal College of Surgeons, medical professionals protest that this is threatening many patients’ lives.
Even the European Commission freely admits, in a recent “communication” to the European Parliament and sundry others, that its rules are, in practice, highly “unsatisfactory” and in need of urgent reform. But it adds that attempts to amend the directives have been going on since 2004 and that any chance of getting the reforms needed will involve so many consultations and negotiations that little is likely to happen for years.
Of course, if we still had the power to run our own country, this crisis in the NHS and much else besides could be sorted out within months, But since our Government seems quite happy to continue handing over even more powers to this crazy system, there is nothing we can do about it – until eventually the whole lumbering, labyrinthine, unaccountable, undemocratic mess implodes under the weight of its own contradictions.
