The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph

Did we lose a war that no one noticed?
It is not difficult to understand why leading thinkers wanted some kind of union between the nations of Western Europe after WW2. The Continent had suffered two crippling wars within thirty years. These had been devastating for the people – with so many killed or maimed, devastating for their towns and cities – with so many laid to waste and devastating for their livelihoods – with the nation’s economies in tatters. However, by the beginning of the sixties the United States and the Soviet Union had demonstrated that, because of predictable technological developments, war between advanced nations was no longer a viable option. Nuclear weapons had brought the near certainty of mutually assured destruction in any such future conflict.
This state of affairs could have been predicted with the development of the V1s and V2s by Germany in the latter part of WW2 and then by the US with the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. However, no doubt the deep psychological impact caused by the horrors of these wars, kept those pressing for union to continue – even though its purpose was already all but lost. Voluntary inclusion in a variety of European projects, such as the European Space Agency, would have been a sensible move, because it would spread the cost of expensive projects – but any agreement which limits the nation’s freedom to act in accordance with that nation’s and its people’s interest was unwanted – particularly now, when one or many are struggling to avoid national bankruptcy.
The European project, started as a genuine attempt to protect the people from the horrors of war, has since been hijacked by those seeing the Union as a way to achieve personal benefit and wealth and there is very few, if any, aspects included which benefits the nation and its people as a whole. It was clear prior to the Lisbon Treaty being ratified by Brown that two thirds of voters did not want the treaty to be signed – with more than 80% wanting a referendum on our inclusion. This fact alone should make any honorable party vying for government offer a referendum on our membership – the disastrous consequences of our membership since should make it imperative.
At a time when we have high unemployment, to allow foreign nationals, whether from the EU or elsewhere, to move here to take the available jobs is a mindless stupidity for a nation deep in debt and staving off bankruptcy [apart to those benefitting from the measure]. Even the most simple can understand that this results in our debt being aggravated through having to pay unemployment benefit to national’s kept unemployed as a result of this immigrant labour.
Although not EU law, our inclusion in the European Convention on Human Rights is also working against our national interest and a referendum, at least, is required to see that the people still want to be included. This Convention was originally developed to avoid a repeat of the Nazi’s treatment of the Jews in the lead up and during WW2, particularly the Holocaust. However, this convention is now being used here, often to give, mostly, economic migrants superior rights to our own citizens and is costing the nation immense sums in legal fees – money we can ill afford and making the repatriation of many who are here illegally from being returned to their nation of birth.
Our European adventure has been disastrous and because of our dire economic condition, the impact of self-serving politicians not to offer the people referenda on each new development has come home to roost. The recent increase in the EU budget will, according to Daniel Hannan, cost us a net amount of £9.2 billion [an increase of 74%!] – this will more than wipe out the benefit of all of the spending cuts announced to date.
And what do we pay this for? To be governed by a group of Eurocrats in the majority and increasing number of areas of national life – did we have difficulty in governing ourselves before? Did we lose a war that no one noticed? For this is usually the only reason a nation submits to government by a foreign power. These Eurocrats create laws that are generally against our national interest and, because of the way the EU is constructed, effectively removes the peoples democratic right to change the laws so created.
We must have taken leave of our senses to keep electing the three main parties to government, each of whom wishes to see our continued membership?

Hi,

enjoyed the article but copied it from your page to put in a readable format – reverse block with low contrast does not make for ease of reading!

The content was very worthwhile Black on White!!

Good luck – I trust you will not mind it being reprinted in a legible form with attribution elsewhere.

David’s voting record on The EU leaves quite a bit to be disappointed about for a EUroRealist as he has all too frequently failed to vote against EU issues in favour of these United Kingdoms!

May I express my disapointment at David’s apparent drift from a health and Patriotic opposition to membership of The EU by these United Kingdoms supported in his early days by his voting record – to an apparent acquiescence!

We must hope he has not prostituted his principles in return for a closer inspection and attempts to climb the greasy pole, a positioning which might also explain the idiocy of his votes on Climate Change and one must assume thereby a belief in the myths of AGW Anthropogenic Global Warming!

#G0455* – Consider MAGNA CARTA – Britain’s CONSTITUTION

Posted by Greg Lance - Watkins (Greg_L-W) on 05/04/2011

#G0455* – Consider MAGNA CARTA – Britain’s CONSTITUTION

First page of Constitution of the United StatesImage via Wikipedia

The U.S. Constitution, with all its amendments, is 7,200 words long.
The EU Constitution, now formally known as the Lisbon Treaty, is 76,000 words long.

The U.S. Constitution, in particular the Bill of Rights, is mainly about the liberty of the individual.
The EU Constitution is mainly about the power of the state.

The U.S. Declaration of Independence, which foreshadowed the constitutional statement, promises ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.’
The EU’s equivalent, the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, guarantees its citizens the right to strike action, free health care, and affordable housing.

The U.S. Constitution came into effect only following ratification by specially convened assemblies in eleven of the member states, with the remaining two, North Carolina and Rhode Island, falling into line soon afterward. . . .
In 2005, the EU Constitution was put to the vote in two of EU’s founding states, France and the Netherlands. Both rejected it: by 54 percent and 62 percent respectively. On June 12, 2008, Ireland voted on the text. Once again, it was rejected. And, once again, the EU brushed aside the rejection and pushed ahead regardless.

“Where the U.S. Constitution was based on empowering the people and controlling the state.
The EU Constitution was based on empowering the state and controlling the people.

The U.S. Constitution begins, ‘We, the People . . .’
The EU Constitution, in the form of the amended European Treaties, begins, ‘His Majesty the King of the Belgians.’

“The EU is a depressing example of what the United States might turn into: a federation that is prepared to sacrifice prosperity and liberty for the sake of uniformity.”

#G0421* – David CAMERON & BIG SOCIETY by Niall WARRY

Posted by Greg Lance - Watkins (Greg_L-W) on 22/02/2011

#G0421* – David CAMERON & BIG SOCIETY by Niall WARRY
Hi,
Here are my views on our Dave’s ‘BIG Society.’
We’ve had:-
Roosevelt’s ‘New Deal‘,
Lyndon Johnson’s ‘Great Society‘,
John Major’s ‘A Society at Ease with Itself’ and ‘Back to Basics’
Tony Blair’s ‘Big Debate’ and ‘Cool Britannia’.
So what’s new about this ‘Big Society’?
Well the Big Society is a poke in the eye for Margaret Thatcher for a start for her much misquoted saying about Society. The full quote is:-
‘There is no such thing as society there are individuals men and women, and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look to themselves first. It’s our duty to look after ourselves and then to look after our neighbour.
‘Big Society’ is designed, like garbage recycling, to pass some of the duties of government, national and local, to the hard pressed public but beyond that it’ll go no further than all the others mentioned above.

It seems strange for a government that has handed over control of much of our national life to Brussels to now try and reverse this by passing the onus back to the public. Of course the fact that so many Councils are responsible, for political reasons, for cutting our services instead of other overheads hardly helps this idea.
Some of the intentions of the ‘BIG Society’ may be good however it has not been accompanied by a commensurate reduction in taxes, in fact just the contrary taxes are going up and those who have diligently saved for old age are having their savings stolen from them by the process of inflationary Quantitative Easing.
While Cameron is now banging on about his ‘BIG Society’ he appears to be completely impotent as to where our councils should make cuts and of course by refusing us our referendum on the Lisbon Treaty he has virtually handed over control of our foreign policy, judiciary Army and much more to The European Union in Brussels.
Rather than come up with a grandiose idea like his ‘BIG Society’ he should just concentrate on getting back power from Brussels and reducing the size of Government and our taxes.
It has been proved over and over again lower taxes brings in more revenue.
The only ‘BIG idea’ the self confessed Heir to Blair needs is to ‘ CUT GOVERNMENT AND TAXES’ and trust us to do the rest!

#G0399* – 09-Jan-2011 – Telegraph – Has William HAGUE Been in Panto?

Posted by Greg Lance - Watkins (Greg_L-W) on 09/01/2011

#G0399* – 09-Jan-2011 – Telegraph – Has William HAGUE Been in Panto?

Hi,
I am forced to wonder if the wee lad has been having one of his multi pint moments or perhaps he has been in Panto and like Rip van Winkel has been a sleep for many long years – what a rude awakening he must have had that having been party to enacting the passing of every item of legislation since his election to Parliament in 1989 – let us not forget that William Hague is 50 this year and we first saw him as a child at a Conservative Party conference giving his cringeworthy performance way back in 1977 – He must have been asleep!
Now blinking he has emerged into the full light of day and seems surprised that these United Kingdoms have been betrayed by both his own party and the lies of Labour.
What the point of his long after the event mutterings are is hard to guess.
The Tories still not read The New Constitution aka Lisbon Treaty – what are they taliking about when they say they promise a referendum on transfering further powers to The EU!! Perhaps William Hague could during his next long nap dream up what powers are left that could be transfered that are of any consequences.
The Treaty of Rome made it very clear – it was only the lies of Ted Heath, Rippon et al that obfuscated the matter THIS IS A POLITICAL & ECONOMIC UNION – how can William Hague not realise or is he using the same device as Norman Tebbit and Margaret Thatcher and pretending they had no idea until they are out of office – frankly I never believed Margaret Thatcher as she cut deals at Brughes to save fave, trading agricultural subsidies for rebates to look good!
Is William Hague really that stupid that he actually believes his article or is Ffion in the background pulling the strings?
We don’t WANT a referendum on transfer of power that they already have – we want a referendum to either quit the pretence of being a Country with laws, justice and government (the status quo) or repatriating all our human rights of self determination, re-patriating our democracy, restoring our Sovereignty, re-establishing our Justice and values and reinstating our Liberty & freedom –
Nothing less than an OUT / IN Referendum is acceptable.

Wake up Wee Willie Winkie time to climb the stairs and join the real world!

No more powers should be moved from Britain to the EU

Our system for approving European treaties is morally bankrupt, says Foreign Secretary William Hague.

No more powers should be moved from Britain to the EU

William Hague thinks we must change the law to ensure that by law the British people’s wishes can never be ignored in such a way again Photo: AFP/GETTY
The disillusionment of British voters with politicians has many causes: expenses scandals, economic pressures and the failures of the last Labour Government.
But high on the list of such causes is the sheer undemocratic arrogance with which a European treaty of huge significance – the Lisbon Treaty – was rammed into law two years ago with no mandate of any kind from the people of this country.
Labour’s cynical behaviour over that Treaty, the denial of any say for voters and the absurd pretence that this was nothing ordinary people should be allowed to concern themselves with was a very grave blow to the European Union’s democratic credentials in this country and has caused deep and lasting anger.
I would have dearly loved to hold a referendum on that treaty after a change of government: sadly the ratification of Lisbon by all 27 EU states last autumn made that impossible. But I have always been determined that this flagrant denial of democratic choice to the people of Britain would never happen again.
The current system we have for these kinds of decisions is, quite simply, now morally bankrupt. It must change.
It is our firm belief and our policy that no more powers should be moved from Britain to the EU but that is not enough – if any Government ever again attempted to change the EU Treaties to transfer further powers the British people must rightfully have their say.
So we must change the law to ensure that by law the British people’s wishes can never be ignored in such a way again. This will mark a fundamental shift of power from Government to Parliament and to the voters of this country, a shift long overdue.
The EU Bill we are bringing forward will put into the British people’s hands a referendum lock on any further changes to the EU’s Treaties that hand over powers from Britain to the EU, a lock to which only they will hold the key.
In the great detail necessary to cover the complexity of those Treaties and the various kinds of treaty change the Bill sets out in clear terms when Ministers must put a treaty change to a referendum.
Not only will Parliament now be given a full say over all kinds of treaty change but any treaty change that hands over powers to the EU or extends its control over any area of policy will also be subject to a referendum.
Not only would the removal of the veto over any of 44 separate treaty articles require a referendum, or the substantive use of any of 12 treaty articles, the Bill also lays down strict and comprehensive tests which will capture transfers of power on any change to the Treaties – whether an attempt to increase the EU’s powers over an existing area of policy or any reach into a new area of policy.
If any one of these tests are met – it is worth noting that the Lisbon Treaty would have been caught in numerous separate ways – then the law will require a referendum, and if any minister decides to ignore them then, like any other ministerial decision, they will be subject to judicial review in the courts.
So any British citizen will be able to go to court to enforce the electorate’s rights and ensure that ministers cannot wriggle out of a referendum.
Some people have argued that the Bill does not go far enough or has loopholes. But the truth is that only in a few minor areas does it give the ministers of the day any discretion at all about the calling of a referendum – and then only if they can persuade parliament and the courts that they are right. When it becomes an Act this will be the strongest defence of national democracy put in place anywhere in Europe. It is a massive advance for national democracy.
And not only will current and future ministers in this country know that they cannot hand over powers without a referendum but other nations’ governments will too. It will always have to be in their minds if they are contemplating changing the EU Treaties that any consequent increase in the EU’s powers would trigger a binding referendum in the United Kingdom.
In its sovereignty clause the Bill also deals with one potential but important problem for the future. It has been argued before the courts and by academic commentators that our membership of the EU has altered our ancient doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty. That doctrine is a matter that should be beyond such speculation, so the Bill confirms and affirms the position that EU law in this country is only recognised by virtue of the authority of acts of Parliament.
Such a defence for our nation’s democracy is a necessary complement to our vigorous and active engagement within the EU, an engagement which is already delivering solid results in our national interest: tough, targeted EU sanctions on Iran, a free trade agreement with South Korea and the beginnings of some financial reality in the EU budget.
This Bill is not a panacea for all the many additional problems in the EU we have to solve, but it does mean that in the future the most important decisions of all will belong not to the executive alone, or even Parliament, but the British people themselves. New rights given to people are, quite properly, hard and politically painful to claw back, so this Bill ought to become part of our settled constitutional order.
The Labour Party that voted against a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty now have a decision to make: can they recognise that the first step to political recovery is the admission of past mistakes and lend their support to this radical step to strengthen our democracy, or will they try to deny the British people their new democratic power?

#G382* – NEWS!!! – Clegg Lied!

Hi,

students seem not alone in completely overlooking the FACT that the Lib.Dims. were not elected to Government in fact they hold a tiny number of seats and sold out any principle they may pretend to in return for acting as ballast for the Tory Party which held the most seats.

Did you REALLY believe Nick Clegg would deliver ANYTHING other than betrayal?
Do not forget he is a complete sell out – having held the position of Massively Expensive Parasite as an MEP giving credibility to the undemocratic, corrupt, profligate centralised and undemocratic EU for many years.

Further do realise the Lib.Dims. have always espoused sell out to direct rule by the malign EU and ensuring that Britain dumps control of its currency and surrenders the £ to the control of the ECB YET poll after poll shows Lib.Dim. voters by majority wish to retain the £ and value our Democracy.

Clearly Clegg is, if not dishonest, at very least corrupt – you will note Nick xclegg has never pointed out to British peoples that he is utterly irrelevant as is every single MP – Do read The EUropean Communities Act and The New Constitution in the form of The Lisbon Treaty which was authorised by Tony Blair & signed by Gordon Brown without ANY meaningful opposition from a single domestic politician – even UKIP did not raise a finger to oppose the final sell out to EU direct control of Britain!

Yes Clegg misled you – are you surprised or is it his irrelevance that surprises you?

Regards,
Greg_L-W.

#G367* – Marie LE PEN MEP to EU PRESIDENT – 90 Seconds EU (So Called) Parliament

Posted by Greg Lance - Watkins (Greg_L-W) on 19/10/2010

#G367* – Marie LE PEN MEP to EU PRESIDENT – 90 Seconds EU (So Called) Parliament

Mister President,
You are currently in charge for 6 months, in this rotating and short-lived position, as President of the European Union.
Contrary to the majority of French voters, you have revealed yourself as a zealous europeist, even daring to reintroduce under the hardly changed format of the Lisbon Treaty, the Constitution the Dutch and the French rejected in 2005. Alas, the Irish people’s will has foiled your scheme.
Therefore, the Lisbon treaty is null and void despite all the maneuvers trying to impose upon the European peoples the will of the reigning euro-internationalist cabal. As a member of parliament, I voted in 1957 against the Treaty of Rome, the first stage of a process which would lead, according to its promoters, Monnet and Coudenhove-Kalergi among others, to the United States of Europe
Since this Tower of Babel could only be built upon the ruins of nations, first of all of France, my fatherland, I’ve been its determined adversary ever since. We are told that globalization involves fundamental changes everywhere to which we must subdue ourselves.
But in truth, throughout the world, nations are growing stronger, supported by enthusiastic patriotisms, except within a unique area, Europe, where nations and fatherlands are sold off, dismantled, demoralized to the benefit of a project without power or identity, while foreign migratory waves gradually invade it and while the opening of our economic borders and while the opening of our economic borders surrenders it to the unrestrained competition of the rest of the world.
The promises made to Europeans so that they’d accept to lose their independence, sovereignty, identity, and culture, all failed to be kept. Neither economic growth, full employment, prosperity, nor safety. Only anguish prevails at the dawn of the coming systemic crisis: an energy, food and financial meltdown. Meanwhile, of course, the media wheel keeps spinning.
The European soccer tournament yesterday, the Roland Garros Tennis Open, tomorrow the Beijing Olympic Games, and today the miraculous saga of an icon: Ingrid who laughs, cries, prays, and wanders supported by your brotherly arm. In your desire… In your desire to be the libertador, you strayed into accepting negotiations with the FARC terrorists.
But neither you nor Mr Chavez released Colombian senator Mrs Betancourt.
It was President Uribe who, facing the mobilization of worldwide progressivism, gained a decisive victory over criminal terrorism.
You multiplied fruitless approaches, even going so far as to invite repentant FARC communist terrorists to benefit from asylum in France, but to protect them from whom? From Uribe the democrat ?
While you were at it, why not the Taliban, Hezbollah, or the Tamil Tigers? You are like the amphisbaena monster, dear to the poet CÈsaire.
Without a doubt, Mr. President, your media director talents won’t be enough to avert the brewing threats you will have to face before the end of the year.
Your Europe is a drifting vessel, windswept and beaten by the waves.
It’s the only region in the world which deliberately dismantled its political and moral structures. Without borders, gradually invaded by a mass immigration which is just beginning, economically ruined by free-market fanaticism, socially impoverished, weakened demographically, lacking spirit and defensive strength. it will become at best an American protectorate. At worst, it will fall under the slavery of dhimmitude.
It is long overdue to give up on the deadly illusion of federalism, and to build a Europe of nations, united in real alliances, more modest maybe, but more effective. The Constitution and the Treaty failures must be considered as warnings.

The peoples of Europe do not want this project. They won’t allow it to be forced upon them, they don’t want to die.

Make of Msr. Le Pen’s speech what you will – I thought it was rather good though areas of his racism I find as reprehensible as The BNP & The EFD.

British Politicians with pens and treachery, in pursuit of their own agenda and greed, have done more damage to the liberty, freedoms, rights and democracy of the British peoples than any army in over 1,000 years.

The disastrous effects of British politicians selling Britain into the thrall of foreign rule by the EU for their own personal rewards has damaged the well-being of Britain more than the armies of Hitler and the Franco – German – Italian axis of 1939 – 1945.
