having read pages and pages of articles and near endless transcripts and polemics regarding this, The Lucy Letby murder conviction I am morally certain she was NOT guilty as charged and this has been a grave miscarriage of justice seemingly aided and abetted by the ‘authorities’ to wrap up a very sad series of deaths, without it reflecting on The NHS, The NHS Trust, The Countess of Chester Hospital, anyone in administarative positions of authority, anyone senior, or by admitting what seems to be the truth.

I have spent many hours reading details of similar cases worldwide and extensive time reading the details from Lucy’s own notebooks, which due to her failure to save the lives of many babies who had little or no hope of life at birth, due mostly to the extreme prematurity of their births and other medical problems at birth Lucy spent endless hours, often alone struggling to save their lives or give comfort and love as they lay dying a situation all too common in the job she had been brave enough to accept and seemingly carry out to the best of her abilities as one of the best trained and most caring of nurses on the unit – respected and liked by all – until the tables were, it seems, turned on her by people with the authority to be able to cover their own criminality, incompetence or irresponsibility.

It is not unusual for a therapist to advise someone near the end of their capacity to deal with such a situation, to suggest  writting your every concern and every problem down as a form of cathacis.

May I lead you to a situation a little closer to my own life – I presented with symptoms of cancer in 1997 – my Consultant and those in his team who dealt with my case failed to diagnose my situation until one day I was phoned by my Consultant who said he had been puzzled by my case and had reviewed the note. We chatted and he showed where a Registrar had failed to see a fairly obvious symptom in a scan.

My Consultant asked me if I wanted the Registrar to be removed and demoted, I said to err is human but could he be moved to another hospital or another disciplin and set back by a year, as an object lesson for him and as an example for others – this was duelly done and when the arrangements had been made the Registrar asked to see me and apologised and thanked me for the lesson.

When it comes to the end of the teather it is sad to relate that my Consultant who was a social acquainance talking privately with me said he was having difficulty telling so many young men and women and their families that they had little hope of survival, and the many who felt a need to blame the medics!

My Consultant tried for a while to cope using alcohol as a prop, but when that exacerbated the problem, as it so often does, he ended up with a divorce and the loss of his 2 children AND wife.

Sadly at 46 this VERY bright and very much respected Consultant took all his staff out for a meal shortly before Christmas and later that night took his own life – He had run out of notebooks of foolish and unwarranted self doubt to fill – A huge loss to us all – I would like to stress that there is no truth in the rumour that he took his life because he realised he had over 20 years ahead of him as my Consultant dealing with my Kidney Cancer, endless rounds of Bladder Cancer, Urithral Cancer, Cancer of the abdomen, several TURPs and Lymphatic Cancer + a major Heart Attack 12 years ago!

A very competent and caring nurse I have known since she was at school had finally run out of the ability to nurse young women with younfg children as they died of breast cancer, she is now Ordained and seeking to help people in other ways.

I believe there is a great future for Lucy Letby once this heinous wrong is righted!

I regret that this criminal trial would seem to tell us more about the incompetence, indolence, irresponsibility and possibly even criminal and even evil behaviour of others than it tells us about Lucy Letby – who seems to have been singled out as a scapegoat being the weakest link ho could be blamed in a collusion of sh*ts running the Hospital and those directly and indirectly responsible for the management of the Countess of Chester’s maternity, neonatal and related services.

I can not say for certain that Lucy Letby was NOT guilty of offence or even offences but I can say with absolute certainty that the Police, The Hospital, The CPS, The Authorities, Lucy Letby’s line management, The Lawyers and The Court under the direction of The Judge TOTALLY FAILED to ensure that Justice was seen to be done and FAILED TOTALLY to prove that Lucy Letby was Guilty of ANY Criminal or Culpable Offence.

I have written many postings on this WebSite which you can access by diligent search – there are also very many polemics in the media on this subject and by my opinion it is unacceptable to hold Lucy Letby for a further single hour – It is time to pay her massive compensation and whatever she may choose to do in life, subsidise her salary and eventually pension to ensure it is at least that of a nurse with the increments she had every reason to expect as a caring well qualified nurse until she would have retired.

May I suggest the salary and pension support is funded by payment by each of those who have clearly failed Justice, decency, truth and most of all Lucy Letby.

Statistics that suggest Lucy Letby tampered with babies’ breathing tubes while working at a Liverpool hospital are “not credible”, experts have warned.

At the Thirlwall Inquiry last week, Richard Baker KC said an audit had shown that the dislodgement of breathing tubes occurred at a rate 40 times higher than normal during Letby’s shifts when she worked at Liverpool Women’s Hospital in 2012 and 2015.

However, neonatologists and statisticians have written to Lady Justice Thirlwall questioning the data.

In a letter seen by The Telegraph, the experts write: “We do not find the assertion credible and are writing to express our deep concerns over the figures presented to the Thirlwall Inquiry with regards to extubation rates.

“The apparent careless presentation of unsubstantiated and uncorroborated figures is likely to create unnecessary distress and harm, and generate additional worry, for example among parents of babies who were treated at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

“If data quoted is subsequently shown to be robust, reliable and accurate, we question why such a drastic increase went unnoticed and unaddressed for nearly a decade. The failure to raise this issue would in that case raise important questions and have profound implications for Liverpool Women’s Hospital.”

Signatories to the letter include Dr Neil Aiton, a consultant neonatologist and lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, and Dr Svilena Dimitrova, a consultant neonatologist and specialist adviser for the Care Quality Commission, as well as a medical reviewer for the review of maternity services at the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

While the inquiry heard that tubes were dislodged on 40 per cent of Letby’s shifts, other scientists have pointed out that there is extensive scientific literature suggesting that breathing tubes can become dislodged in newborns between one per cent and 80 per cent of the time.

Lucy Easthope, a professor in practice of risk and hazard at the University of Durham, also warned that there was a national product recall of breathing tubes for newborns in 2012.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, she said: “Is it correct to say that there was an inexplicable rise in dislodged neonatal endotracheal tubes in the year that we saw national major product recall in neonatal endotracheal tubes? I expect the inquiry will cover this MHRA alert tomorrow.”

In August 2023, Letby was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016. In July, she was also found guilty at retrial of attempting to murder a baby girl by dislodging the breathing tube in her throat.

The Thirlwall Inquiry, which opened last week, is investigating the wider circumstances about what happened at the Countess of Chester and how the deaths might have been prevented.

In his opening statement, Mr Baker said that some of the incidents had involved complications “that were, in themselves unusual”, such as the dislodgement of breathing tubes. He added: “It is very uncommon. You will hear evidence that it generally occurs in less than one per cent of shifts.

“As a sidenote, you will hear that an audit carried out by Liverpool Women’s Hospital recorded that whilst Lucy Letby was working there, dislodgment of endotracheal tubes occurred in 40 per cent of shifts that she worked. One may wonder why.”

However, a paper by Newcastle University in 2016 found that dislodged breathing tubes were common in premature babies – happening an average of six times for infants born at 25 weeks and under, and two times for pre-term babies above 25 weeks gestation.

“Potential causes are challenges met when fixating the endotracheal tube to a very small person, mostly the size of the fixation tool and its interaction with fragile skin,” said the report published in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood.

Since Letby’s conviction, many doctors, nurses, scientists and statisticians have questioned the way evidence was presented in the trial.

At the inquiry on Thursday, Mr Baker said that “everybody who recklessly promotes conspiracy theories, or who parrots without questioning the same tired misconceptions about this case, should be ashamed of themselves”.

Cheshire Police are currently investigating whether babies were harmed at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, but no further charges have been brought.
